League Championship Goes to Upper Annandale for 2nd Year in a Row

Moffat team Upper Annandale lifted their second league title in a row pipping new club Maxwelltown Thistle by a single point. Uppers won what was a league decider, defeating Thistle 3-1 at Moffat on Monday 5th May.

Uppers home form was the key to their success winning all 8 games at Hope Johnstone park. The Moffat team also added three cups to match their 2006-07 trophy winning performance.

New team Maxwelltown Thistle did well, winning 2 cups and finishing as runners-up in another 2 as well as pushing Uppers all the way in the league.

Kirkconnel Amateurs showed improvement late in the season and featured in 2 finals after looking unconvincing in the first half of the season. Lochmaben picked up their first trophy for 2 seasons when they lifted the Nivison Cup. Morton Thistle ended their trophy drought when they lifted the League Cup in November.

Of the 9 teams participating in the league, 6 featured in finals, with 4 different clubs claiming silverware.

Next year two new teams will join the league. FC Dynamo Star have been around the local scene for around 15 years, playing their football as Dynamo Star in the Sunday league. The other new team is First Base Dynamos who played last year in the youth league. Unfortunately the season will start without Kelloholm who have folded due to lack of committee members. Kelloholm featured in the league for 14 years and before that had several success laden years in the Sunday League.

The new season will start without long standing General and Match Secretary Graham Lockhart who is standing down after 16 years in the position. The role of General Secretary goes to Steven Todd who steps down as League President. Match Secretary duties are being filled by Brian Templeton who also President of the Dumfries Referees Association. Vice-President Peter Meechan steps up to President. League Treasurer Jim Kirk also announced that he will step down at the end of next season.

The end of season awards were presented at the AGM which took place on the 15th June 2008.
