Lincluden Swifts - West of Scotland Cup Glory

The Lincluden Swifts side that won the West of Scotland Cup twice in the early 1960s were one of the top sides nationally at the time reaching the latter stages of the Scottish Amateur Cup several times as well as reaching two West finals.

In 1963 the Swifts played their first final against Crosshill Thistle, a top Ayrshire side at the time. The match was won 1-0 nil with John McColm scoring the winner. Interestingly the Crosshill keeper that night was Peter McCloy who went on to have a successful carreer at Glasgow Rangers. McColm's goal on the night was a cross come shot from the left wing that totally decieved McCloy.

The Swifts couldn't celebrate too much though as they had to play a cup final at the Kingholm the next day. They won that match and in fact won every competition they entered that year and  also went through their whole league campaign undefeated, dropping only one point along the way.

A couple of years later they repeated their success with another West victory this time it was agaisnt Mossblown another top side.
