Maxwelltown Thistle Welcome to the homepage for Maxwellton Thistle
(members of the Dumfries and District Amateur Football League, affiliated to the S.A.F.A. and S.F.A.)

Maxwelltown Thistle have a long and distinguished history stretching back over 60 years. Originally named Maxwelltown Thistle in the 1920s the club changed its name to Maxwelltown Juveniles and the club played in the 1930s and 40s in the local juvenile (U18) league where they won many honours. In 1954 the club changed its name to Maxwelltown Thistle and joined the newly formed Dumfries and District Amateur Football League. The club spent three seasons in the amateur ranks before leaving to join the newly formed youth league in 1958, although they did not participate for several years after this. The club did move back to  the amateur ranks for one season in the early sixties before yet again returning to the youth ranks. The club has been ever present in the youth football scene since then and for many years had some of the best teams in the region at the various age groups under the leadership of Billy Cross. At the start of the 2007/08 season the club moved back into amateur football when it fielded  teams in both youth and amateur leagues. The youth set-up has now been folded for the time being and the club continue on in the amateur ranks.
