Upper Annandale were presented with the 2008/09 Newbie Social Cup the league championship trophy and individual medals before their league cup match against Terregles Athletic on Saturday 12th September . The reasons for the long delay are well documented but Uppers were deserved winners with a strong late season run after several poor home results early in the season. This makes it a hattrick of titles a feat only achieved by other four clubs in the past 50 odd years. Incidentally the other clubs were Lincluden Swifts, Nithsdale Amateurs, YMCA and Kirkconnel Amateurs. This was probably the hardest of the three with serious opposition from at least 4 other teams.

Kirkconnel AFC, better known as Kirkconnel Amateurs have withdrawn from the league after 44 consecutive seasons as members. The lack of committee members and players has forced the club to fold for the time being. It is hoped that they can get things sorted out for next season. Kirkconnel are the most successful team in league history by a long way. They joined the league in 1965 after a season in the Ayrshire Church league. It took some time for the club to achieve success and it wasn't until the 1980s that they came to the fore. From then on they have been a formidable outfit lifting a record 11 league titles and amassing more than 50 trophies over the years. They were also winners of the South of Scotland cup in the early 2000s. Over the years they have had many excellent players and their withdrawl is a big loss to the DDAFL.

The long running saga of the 2008/09 championship is over. The General Purposes Committee of the SAFA have deducted 18 points from Maxwelltown Thistle for playing an ineligible player in 6 of their league matches, no fine was applied to recognise the fact that Maxwelltown were unaware that ther player was ineligible. This leaves Upper Annandale as the champions for the third year running. Uppers, who themselves lost 3 points for the same offence during the season dad the best playing record and were deserved champions. The presentation of the League Trophy and winners medals will take place at the next appropriate opportunity.

Posted 10th March 2009 - Some Fact and Figures
- Kirkconnel will play their 900th league game in the DDAFL in their final fixture of the season and will be the first club in league history to do so.
- Morton Thistle played their 800th league game in the final game of last season.
- Lochmaben passed the 800 game mark close to the end of last season.
- Lochar Thistle reached 350 total league wins recently when they defeated Terregles Athletic 7-2 at Jocks Loaning. They will have played more than 750 league games by the end of the season.
- Upper Annandale have drawn more league games than any other club in the history of the DDAFL with 163 draws. Uppers are closing in on the 900 league games milestone and may reach it before the end of next season.
- By the end of this season five teams will have reached the 40 year mark of league membership. Four of the teams are still active in the league, they are Kirkconnel, Morton Thistle, Upper Annandale and Lochar Thistle. The fifth was Mid-Annandale who are still going strong and who now play in the South League. Lochmaben will bring the total to six if they complete a full season in 2009/10.
- Teams from Terregles have a varied past and have played home games at both the Holm Park at Troqueer and Terregles Park. The current incarnation have been in the league for 25 years this season. They played under the banner of Queens Colts for four seasons before relocating to Terregles twenty one years ago and re-naming themselves Terregles Athletic. Confusingly there have been two other spells as Terregles Athletic and one as just plain old Terregles. Just to make matters even more complicated one of the earlier Terregles Athletic teams were re-named as Gateside Commercials part way through a season. This Gateside Commercials side should not be confused with the one who took over St.Theresa’a a couple of years earlier. The first ever team to bear the Terregles Athletic name merged with the Standard team to become Auld Brig United before changing their name back to Terregles Athletic the following season. This team was the incarnation that later were renamed Gateside. Pretty complicated!
- Lochar Thistle have also an interesting history. Within fours years of forming they had been promoted to the top division and had started a Youth Team which is now Lochar Boys Club. Not to rest on their laurels they also put a second team into the league, the only team to ever have done this. League rules prevented the teams sharing the same name so the second team was named Lochar Amateurs. Within a couple of years this team went out on their own and several years later became Maxwelltown High School FPs . The FPs later left the league to join the South League but did run an amateur team for one season a few years later. Even more interesting was the fact that the club were originally going to be called Lochar Hearts, unfortunately several locals people objected to this as the Uniroyal team had originally been Lochar Hearts before they had changed their name to get works backing. Uniroyal later became Heathhall Hearts.

There will be a new competition for the league's Top Goalscorer this season. The trophy has been kindly donated by the family of Mark McKeand and will be called the Mark McKeand Memorial Cup. Only goals from league matches will be counted towards the cup.
Mr and Mrs Kerr attended the December management meeting to present the league with the new trophy on Tuesday night (9th december). Peter Meechan, league presidant gratefully recieved the cup.
At the meeting Mrs Kerr also stated that any funds left over from the fundraising event held to finance the purchase of the new trophy will be donated to league funds.
At the 09/10 AGM the trophy was presented to a representative of Upper Annandale AFC to be given to inaugral winner Neil Roddick who secured the trophy with the very last goal of the season. by Mrs Kerr. Mrs Kerr also handed over a cheque for £100 to the league.
